NEEDS Life Performance by Fergus Cronin

16th May at 6pm

Launch of exhibition and Life Performance by Fergus Cronin

Fergus Cronin, is a performance artist, who uses his body as a platform, with a tendency towards making a public show of himself; his street interventions are simple and powerful and mostly involve holding A4 signs in public spaces. The signs, such as ‘I need attention’ and ‘I need touch’, express a vulnerability he chooses to reveal on that day, to communicate ideas and get people to ask questions of him and about themselves. His work seeks to explore the nature and connecting qualities of basic human needs.

‘NEEDS’

An exhibition of photographic and performance documentation of 4 Public Performances on 4 Saturdays in May in Galway City.

Fergus will give a live performance at the opening at 6 pm on the 16th of May in the Gallery.

Fergus Cronin is a performance artist with a tendency towards making a public show of himself; his street interventions are simple and powerful and mostly involve holding A4 signs in public spaces. The signs, such as ‘I need attention’ and ‘I need touch’, ezpress a vulnerability he chooses to reveal on that day, disclosing something raw and alive for public spectacle, for engagement, for exploration, for dialogue. Cronin presents a still yet vibrant presence, which engages the accidental audience passing on the street. This work seeks to explore the nature and connecting qualities of basic human needs.

In this series of work Cronin will perform 4 street interventions in Galway on the first 4 Saturdays in May 2009. The laminated A4 signs used in the performances along with photographs and written documentation will be displayed at the Courthouse Gallery.
The exhibition opens on the 16th May with a performance in the Gallery, by which three of the street performances will have happened with one outstanding for following Saturday.

The exhibition runs from the 16th of May till the 14th of June.
Everybody very welcome
