Jacques Mazel and Patricia Amoretti are young people who live in a small village while Europe is at the brink of World War I. They fall in love with each other but Jacques gets called up as a pilot. He has to comply immediately because he’s supposed to replace a pilot who just recently broke his leg. Jacques leaves an explanatory letter for Patricia but his mother resents her and makes her believe she was forsaken by Jacques. Later Patricia realizes that Jacques has left her with child. Still she refuses to marry her father’s friend Félipe because she knows that her younger sister Amanda has a crush on Félipe. Consequently she is cast out by her family. Eventually Jacques returns from the front and learns he has a son.
