This talk explores west of Ireland ancestry and focuses on Clare surnames and sources and especially the cult of ancestral searching. Many online sources as well as traditional sources can be employed to reveal your familial ancestral legacies. How variants and family names have changed over the ages, protean surnames and hybridised names can all lead us in our fascinating journey in our ancestral past.

Lorna Moloney is producer and presenter of 'The Genealogy Radio Show' and will demonstrate by case studies how family surnames can help solve and find your family sources.

Biography: Lorna Moloney works at University College Cork and is part of the Adult Continuing Education department team working on educational course coordination and development of genealogy seminars. Outreach is the main focus of her objectives and she works on developing upskilling and reskilling initiatives. Lorna is a professional genealogist and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

She worked on the George Boole 200 genealogy project for UCC, The Aldworths of Newmarket Court in a county Cork film and genealogy project and is currently working on James E. Casey founder of UPS family lineages & O’Kief Coshe Mange Project.

Lorna convenes international family history events focusing on family research, Irish roots, workshops and field trips for those visiting Ireland on ancestral research and works on showing Ireland's hidden treasures connecting the roots of the past to the findings of ancestral legacies.She is also the resident genealogist of Dromoland Castle in County Clare.
