Workshop: The Poetics of Space: An alternative map of Ennistymon

Workshop: The Poetics of Space: An alternative map of Ennistymon by Artist Aleks Stanek, Sat, 23rd april 2022 / €15

The Courthouse Gallery & Studios is delighted to announce a new workshop with Aleks Stanek, The Poetics of Space: An alternative map of Ennistymon, Saturday, April 23 2022. The workshop is €15 and will begin at 1 pm to 4 pm. The resulting collaborative audio and footage will be edited by Stanek into a short film to be featured at the Courthouse Gallery Summer Open Exhibition 2022.

In 2017, artist and filmmaker Aleks Stanek ran the length of the Northern Irish border in a project on unrestricted movement and lens-based media. Now, she invites you to explore the same themes to reflect on your experience of the pandemic in Ennistymon.

In this collaborative workshop, the participants will work together to create an alternative map of Ennistymon on film. Wearing body-mounted cameras (mount gear provided) and encouraged to physically re-enact the short journeys made during the lockdown, they’ll produce a unique account of their personal narratives within the global event of COVID-19. The participants will also be encouraged to record retellings of their lockdown experiences.

Attendees are asked to bring:
• A smartphone (or any phone with video capability)
• Earphones with built-in microphone (optional)
• You are advised to dress in warm, practical clothing.

Aleks Stanek has exhibited in shows and screenings in Ireland, the UK and Europe. She completed her Masters in 2019 at the Royal College of Art, London, where her degree show work was awarded the Gilbert Bayes Trust Scholarship. Her 2017 project the search was covered by Deutsche Welle, the Irish Independent and Q Radio.

The workshop can accommodate up to 12 participants so book now.
