The Textile Crew is a group of women who have a meeting every Wednesday morning for the past seven years to practice textile art. They mainly produce beautiful works of crochet and knitting however they are also creative with sewing, felting, batik, spinning, weaving, lace making, needlework, applique, and various other textile techniques. You may have seen their work in Lahinch as they have been ‘love bombing’ on Lahinch prom every Valentine’s day since 2016. You can also catch a glimpse of Brian Merriman with beautiful hand-made clothes on Saint Patrick’s Day each year in Ennistymon. The group meets at the North West Clare Family Resource Center and in return supports the work of the center by volunteering at fundraisers such as baking for the annual golf classic and coffee morning in aid of Clare Haven Services. They are as talented as bakers as they are as textile artists.
The Textile crew will be in situ in the gallery daily from 12 - 4 pm to show visitors how to do some basic textile arts such as knitting, crochet, weaving, and spinning.
There will be some support events during the run of this exhibition, including a screening of Yarn Film, (www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC10LplOF0M) Sat, 1st of February and a talk by Headford Lace Project on the 2nd of February.
