As a result of the war, like so many of my compatriots I was forced to flee Ukraine, and by the fortunate intervention of my friends I arrived in Ireland, into the warm and welcoming embrace of Ireland and its people. I travelled to Ballyvaughan, in this magical place that is The Burren, and was introduced to the wonderful people at the Burren College of Art who have been so welcoming, generous and supportive of my work.
The first part of the exhibition “The Burren - Ukrainian Chronicles: 2022” was created and took place at Burren College of Art in July. Our collaboration continues as well as the creation of the artistic chronicles of the war. Thanks to the invitation of the Courthouse gallery, I have the opportunity to present the next part of the cycle "The Burren - Ukrainian chronicles. Part II».
Throughout Ukraine - in Kyiv, in my beloved city of Kharkiv and everywhere else - the bombing is merciless and relentless. The courage, fearlessness and resilience of the Ukrainian people defending their country, as well as the horrors of the bloody, brutal, senseless war is being documented every day. It is just bare facts for now.
Our Victory will create a Ukrainian myth - a heroic, tragic, modern myth based on those facts. In Ukrainian, painting is called “obrazotvorche mystetstvo”, literally the art of creating images. In the works presented in this Exhibition, the images of the unspeakable tragedy of the war are created through the prism of thousands years of biblical history, and culture: war - death - life - image - myth. The mystery of the origin of these images lies in specific events being repeated over and over again, forming a myth, becoming a product which reveals its essence, its mysterious meanings.
Everything that I have felt and absorbed since I arrived in Ireland, I have captured in these images, and with their visible and hidden meanings, viewers will create their own secret, their own myth.

У результаті війни, як і багато моїх співвітчизників, я був змушений втекти з України, і завдяки щасливому втручанню моїх друзів я прибув до Ірландії, у теплі та привітні обійми Ірландії та її народу.
Я поїхав до Балівона, у це чарівне місце, яке називається Ба , і познайомився з чудовими людьми в Барренському коледжі мистецтв, які були такими привітними, щедрими та підтримували мою роботу.
Перша частина виставки «The Burren – Ukrainian Chronicles: 2022» була створена та проходила в Burren College of Art у липні. Наша співпраця продовжується, як і створення художньої хроніки війни. Завдяки запрошенню галереї Courthouse я маю нагоду представити наступну частину циклу «Баррен – українські літописи. Частина ІІ».
По всій Україні – і в Києві, і в моєму улюбленому місті Харкові, і скрізь – бомбардування безжальне і нещадне. Мужність, безстрашність і стійкість українського народу, який захищає свою державу, а також жахи кривавої, жорстокої, безглуздої війни документуються щодня. Наразі це лише голі факти.
Наша Перемога створить на цих фактах український міф – героїчний, трагічний, сучасний.
В українській мові живопис називають «образотворче мистецтво», буквально мистецтво створення образів. У роботах, представлених на цій виставці, образи невимовної трагедії війни створюються крізь призму тисячолітньої біблійної історії та культури: війна – смерть – життя – образ – міф. Таємниця походження цих образів полягає в тому, що конкретні події повторюються знову і знову, утворюючи міф, який розкриває його суть, його таємничі значення.
Усе, що я відчув і пережив з моменту прибуття до Ірландії, я зафіксував у цих зображеннях, і з їхнім видимим і прихованим значенням глядачі створять свою таємницю, свій власний міф.
English Translation:
Yevhen Svitlychnyi (Alternate roman translation “Yevgen Svitlychny” / “Eugene Svitlychny” Ukrainian: Світли́чний Євге́н Іва́нович; born June 1, 1948, in Kaunas, Lithuanian SSR) is a contemporary Ukrainian artist.
. From 1974 he lives and works in Kharkiv. For the last 20 years he has been teaching at the Department of Fine and Decorative Arts of the Faculty of Architecture of Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
Since 1980 he is and has always been an active participant in international and national exhibitions.
Svitlychnyi’s first personal exhibition took place in Kyiv in 1986. The first publication of his works was in the dissident’s so-called “samvydaw” magazine “Kafedra” Part 9, 1989.
He has had 23 solo and joint exhibitions to date, and has been an artist-in-residence at Burren College of Art since April, 2022.
Svitlychnyi’s work is held in the following permanent collections:

- Norton and Nancy Dodge Collection of Soviet Nonconformist Art
- Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, the USA)

Yevhen Svitlychnyi is married to Yevheniia Svitlychna. Yevhenia Svitlychna is a philologist, a specialist in classical philology and the author of over 80 scientific papers. They have three sons: Borys Svitlychny – military, Oleksandr Svitlychny – MD (surgeon), Ivan Svitlychny – an artist, the main direction of his work is new media. Ivan also works with video, sound – sculpture, graphics, installations.

Євген Світличний — сучасний український художник. Є. . У 1973 році він закінчив Київський державний художній інститут, у якому вчився на факультеті живопису. З 1984 року живе і працює у Харкові. Останні 20 років викладав на кафедрі образотворчого та декоративного мистецтва архітектурного факультету Харківського національного університету будівництва й архітектури.
Змушений покинути рідний дім через повномасштабну неспровоковану війну Росії проти України, у квітні 2022 р. він опинився в Ірландії, в містечку Ballyvaughan, де знаходиться Burren College of Art, який надав йому майстерню і матеріали для роботи.
Починаючи з 1980 р. він є і завжди був активним учасником міжнародних і всеукраїнських виставок. Перша персональна виставка Є. Світличного проходила в Києві у 1986 році. Перша публікація його робіт була в журналі Кафедра, ч. 9, 1989 р. Відтоді він написав 20 персональних виставок.
Передостання персональна виставка під назвою «The Burren - Ukrainian Chronicles: 2022» відкрилася в липні цього року в галереї Burren College of Art (Ballyvaughan). Завдяки зусиллям галереї Courthouse (Ennistymon) стала можливою виставка «The Burren - Ukrainian chronicles. Part II», яка є продовженням циклу. Виставка відкриється 9 грудня і буде працювати до 7 січня за адресою: The Courthouse Gallery & Studios, Parliament Street, Ennistymon, Co. Clare
