Eoin // Sea + Sky: A Collection of New Works

17th March - 15th April.
Opening Reception Friday 16th March 7.30-9.30pm

Based in Co Clare, Eoin merges the tactility of paint with the raw form of the brushstroke and injects them into the natural and urban environment as if they had always been there.

Sea + Sky: A Collection of New Works, showcases these techniques through a series of canvas originals, the large scale and texture of the work becoming all-consuming within the environment of The Courthouse Gallery’s main space. The artist is also exhibiting a series of six panoramic photographs made over recent months, which also form the content of a limited edition book and poster, both available at the Gallery.

With a career born out of graffiti in the mid-1990s, Eoin's move to painting outdoors again in recent years was a natural progression, which resulted in his traveling extensively and painting hundreds of murals around the world, engaging communities, organisations, and individuals across continents and countries. He feels that this period was crucial to his development as an artist, seeing him work through the restraints imposed on him by the canvas. He says he found freedom in painting outdoors and explored exterior surfaces with vigour. More recently Eoin has returned to the studio, shifting his focus back to developing, understanding and producing works on canvas.

This collection of works has been created in his studio on the West Coast of Ireland during the months leading up to March 2018. With this new body of work, the artist focuses largely on attempting to capture architectural and natural forms through organic movement, natural form and inner light.

The mercurial nature of Clare’s coastal light, ancient and modern mad-made structures, and evocative landscape are united in these compelling images.
